

2010 Budget Includes
Four Police Layoffs
Hammonton Town Council approved its 2010 municipal budget on May 24th
that included a zero tax increase and the layoff of eight township
employees--four from the police department. This year's budget is
$12.1 million dollars.

Eagle
Theatre Prepares
For Anniversary Celebration
Believe
it or not, Hammonton's Eagle Theatre will celebrate its first
anniversary the first weekend in June with a big anniversary bash.
On Friday, June 4, its the "Encore at the Eagle" at 8 PM featuring
the music of Carl Howell, Dan Marro, Robin Gazzara, the 2nd and Vine
Players, the Shaken Not Stirred Players, and much more. Tickets
for the event are $20.
Saturday, June 5, at the theatre will feature an anniversary party
and the presentation of the Artist of the Year award to Jack Mazzeo.
This event will feature live music, and lots of food and drink.
This event is free to the public but reservations are recommended.
The
weekend event ends on Sunday, June 6, with a Children's Carnival planned
as part of the theatre's children's programming. The carnival will
feature magician Chad Juros on the stage. Other events include
games, crafts, lots of activities, and carnival themed food.
Admission is $8 for children under 12 and $10 for all others.
Admission includes all shows, games, and food.

Superior Court
Judge Donio
Named Presiding Judge
Hammonton resident and Superior Court Judge Michael Donio has been
named as the Presiding Judge for the criminal division of Atlantic and
Cape May counties. The position takes effect in June as he
succeeds retiring Superior Court Judge Albert Garofolo in the position.
Donio interviewed for the position but was not aware of his
appointment until he was notified that his appointment was affirmed by
the Chief Justice of the New Jersey Supreme Court.

Jack Mazzeo Named
Artist of the Year
The Hammonton Arts and Cultural Committee has selected longtime
photographer Jack Mazzeo as its 2010 "Artist of the Year." Mazzeo,
who now runs the family business that was founded nearly sixty-five
years ago by his father John, in 1946. Mazzeo will receive his
award on Saturday, June 5, at 8 PM at The Eagle Theatre. Admission
to the event is free.

BOE Gets New
President
At the annual reorganization meeting of the Hammonton Board of
Education, Joseph Giralo is unanimously elected as the new board
president. Elected as vice-present was Loretta Rehmann.
Previously, Rehmann served as president and Giralo as vice-president.

Budget Introduction
Set For May
10 Jobs To Be Eliminated
Members of town council are planning to introduce their 2010 municipal
budget in the amount of $11.9 million dollars that again includes no tax
increases for residents. However, the proposed budget, which will
be considered at the May meeting, still calls for the elimination of ten
positions.
The budget calls for the elimination of four police officers, one
highway employee, a recreation worker, and four administrative workers.
The cuts will save the town nearly $300,000 but another $2.5 million
from surplus must be used.ms in Hammonton.
